When I live alone

"Urban empty-nest youth" is a special noun popular in recent years. It refers to young people who live alone in the city, away from their parents and relatives. They spend most of their time alone at home, except when they are at work. At present, the number of young people aged 20 to 39 living alone in China is close to 20 million, which is a huge group.

I chose to present my art work in the form of installation. In addition, I used printed color blocks and sulphate paper to create small spaces for people living alone and connected them by stairs. When they live in their own space, they express their own emotions freely, independent and interesting. They are given specific roles in the collective life. I would like to use this as a symbol that these "empty-nest youth" are endowed with specific social functions at work to show their different aspects from those when they are alone.
